Overview
I'm an experienced Perl programmer and e-commerce specialist. Half of my career has been spent as a one-man web shop and the other half working with small-to-medium sized teams.
Work History
CBT Nuggets
09/2003 - Present
Webmaster
CBT Nuggets is a producer of IT certification training videos, which they sell primarily on a website that I created in Perl. The customer side and an extensive administrative interface for the sales team and order processing staff, as well as reporting tools for management. In additional to normal e-commerce functionality, this company (like a lot of others) has a lot of unique requirements that required various custom solutions.
Self-Employed
09/1999 - 09/2003
Internet Architect/Developer
Freelance development for a few different customers, including one customer that became my current employer, working mainly from home, and almost exclusively with Perl and PostgreSQL.
IBM Global Services
09/1999 - 10/2002
Solutions Architect
Working in the Atlanta Center for E-Business Innovations, I led technical teams of various sizes during development of very high profile, high volume web sites, usually specializing in e-commerce functionality. At the project level, I reported to the Producer, who works directly with the creative team and the customer. I was involved in the full life cycle of the project, from early estimates and contract drafting, to requirements gathering and detailed design, to development and QA testing, to deployment and transition to maintenance.
Synergistics, Inc.
09/1997 - 09/1999
Senior Developer
I developed Lotus Notes/Domino applications and advised the product development team on web-related issues at this Notes Consulting firm. I was one of two developers certified by IBM in their Net.Commerce product. I also served as the Network Administrator, setting up a complete Linux-based firewall and handling networking-related issues.
Tarkenton Net Ventures
07/1997 - 09/1997
Web Developer
During a six-month contract assignment, TNV was dissolved by the parent company. While I was there, I designed web sites and developed CGI web applications in Perl.
Blueshift, Inc.
08/1996 - 07/1997
Webmaster
Responsible for all aspects of Blueshift's web services, which included a small web hosting program, as well as developing and maintaining an assortment of web sites sponsored by the company.
Telemate Software, Inc.
03/1996 - 06/1996

Responsible for receiving and documenting technical support telephone calls from installed customer base, and assisting those customers with Telemate's call-accounting software product for DOS and Windows.

Additional Experience
In my spare time, I manage the web site for The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps. As a former member of the corps, I have been proud to provide this service for them since launching in Febrary of 1997. The site was modeled on Slashdot when I first wrote it and most of the code is essentially unchanged since then -- running Apache, mod_perl and MySQL.
